Side-by-Side

Monday, September 7, 2020 to Friday, October 30, 2020

Barbara and Craig Snapp have been married and exploring Maine for 52 years.  When they moved permanently to Brunswick in 2003, they both began seriously to capture Maine’s beauty in art.  Craig is a photographer;  Barbara works with paint and soft pastels.  They often find that the same landscape appeals to both of them.  This show presents a sampling of their independent expressions of Maine’s unique features.

Many images are from scenes around Petit Manan Point in Steuben where Barbara came every summer as a child and where Craig and Barbara now have a vacation cottage.  The other images are from Baxter State Park and the surrounding wilderness.

For information about purchasing artwork, contact Barbara (bsnapp@povartistsmaine.com) or Craig (snappcp1316@gmail.com).

Japanese Scene in the Wilderness (left; Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area, near Millinocket)   by Craig Snapp (digital photograph)

Autumn Suspended (right)   by Barbara Snapp (soft pastel, 16” x 12”, NFS)

Debsconeag means "carrying place." The reserve contains the highest concentration of pristine, remote ponds in New England, as well as thousands of acres of mature forests.

The pastel painting focuses in on a portion of the broader scene to highlight details and provide a more intimate portrait.

This is a stunning region of Maine adjacent to Baxter State Park.  It is conserved by the Nature Conservancy as an ecological reserve and is a vital link in nearly 500,000 acres of contiguous conservation land.
