Barbara is a scientist and educator who has enjoyed many forms of visual and performing arts as a consumer since childhood. In 2003 she retired from her career and moved to Maine. At that time, she fulfilled a long-time promise to herself – to “take some art classes.” Barbara began with a focus on realistic representational work with graphite and colored pencil. She has since expanded to work with watercolor, pastel, collage and printing. Although she gravitates naturally to objects and scenes from nature, Barbara’s work in the serendipitous and unpredictable world of abstract watercolor, monotypes, and collages allows her to find an unstructured spontaneity that balances the structured world of science and realism.
Since 2005, Barbara has exhibited work with other artists at venues in Brunswick, Topsham, Bath, and Damariscotta. Her work has been juried into exhibits at River Arts in Damariscotta, and she has been honored to receive awards in the Joy of Art exhibits at Topsham Public Library for photographs, watercolors, and soft pastels.
Barbara began her art education with Kathleen Boldt in drawing and has also studied with Linda Murray and Evelyn Dunphy in watercolor, Stephanie Rayner in monotype printing, and Sally Loughridge in pastel. More recently, Barbara has begun to write poetry, using it to inspire her visual arts and also to describe the emotion and insight intended in her work.

Intimate Portraits of Fanciful Creatures: Paintings and Photograph Art by Craig and Barbara Snapp
The woods, shores, creeks and bays of Downeast Maine are filled with interesting creatures. Some have colorful appearances and curious behaviors. Others are more cryptic and subdued. Intimate Portraits of Fanciful Creatures brings some of these creatures to life with a mix of realism, whimsy, and fantasy.
If you are Downeast in July, you can see the show at the Henry D Moore Library in Steuben, Maine (22 Village Road, Steuben, http://www.moorelibrary.org/)
