Points of View Artists continue to feature prominently in awards at the annual Joy of Art exhibit held in the Topsham Public Library in Topsham, Maine.  This year Ann Slocum won in the category of Oil and Acrylic for her abstract mixed media collage Untitled 1In this piece, Ann focuses on graphic elements, structuring and layering the elements of line, pattern, texture, and architecture.  She likens the process to constructing a puzzle with the goal of balancing positive and negative spaces.

Judith Long’s piece, Rhythm ‘n Blue 3, was equally abstract, but was created using printing techniques.  Rhythm ‘n Blue 3 was the winner in the Other Media category.  Judith created her monotype on a Plexiglas plate using cord and oil-based ink.  Paper is placed on top of the altered plexiglas and the entire assemblage is run through an etching press.  As her title indicates, this piece is part of a series exploring color, pattern and embossing.

Joy of Art has been a winter fixture in the Crooker Gallery at the library since 2008.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Topsham Library, the show brings together artists of many media from all over Maine.  Other Points of View Artists in the show are Bonnie Dickey, Harriet Lindemann, Ed McCartan, and Barbara Snapp.  The exhibit continues at the library through February 16.  Library hours and directions can be found at http://www.topshamlibrary.org.
