Craig retired in 2000 after thirty years as an R&D manager in Silicon Valley, CA. Since then he’s been an active volunteer for several land conservation non-profits, providing digital mapping and photography support along with public-access preserve stewardship. He migrated to Maine with his wife Barbara in 2003 and initially specialized in digitally stitched panoramas for the promotion of Downeast Coastal Conservancy projects in Washington County.
He has always had a strong love of nature and moving to Maine allowed him to focus his amateur photography hobby on his adopted state’s striking landscapes with its wonderful natural variations of sky, weather, seasons and tides. He’s been encouraged by Barbara and others who seem to think he has a pretty good “eye” and sense of composition. Some of his images have received recognition at juried shows such as the Topsham Library’s “Joy of the Lens” and the Boothbay Regional Art Foundation’s “Maine Photography Show”.
His “Eclectic SnappShots” exhibits at the UU Church Brunswick in 2017 and at Steuben's Moore Memorial Library in 2018 included an old to new selection of landscape panoramas, spherical keyhole panoramas and images of sunrise, sunset, moonset, Milky Way, infrared, black & white, natural world, wildlife, still life and people. He hopes that some will bring new perspectives for familiar sights, and that a few might bring inspiration or at least a healthy smile. Craig thanks and acknowledges Points of View Artists (povartistsmaine.com) and the First Light Camera Club (https://www.firstlightcc.com/) for inspiring him to keep exploring for new and fun images to capture and create.
In addition to his photography hobby, Craig has also taught short courses, given presentations and tutored on Google Earth-Maps at the Steuben Library, Midcoast Senior College, People Plus and Curtis Memorial Library. He encourages folks to use these free, powerful and fun tools to explore their world and create their own custom maps with imbedded photos. He has recently joined the board of the Midcoast Senior College and has taught a workshop on "iPhone Photography for the Motivated Novice". He encourages folks with smart phones to learn how to use the powerful built in cameras and editing apps to produce excellent photos.
He strives to have his photography and cartography reflect his motto:
"Work Hard, Celebrate Life, Nurture the Earth & Explore the Universe!".
