My paintings and block prints are primarily direct, clear compositions of sights here in Maine, using a viewpoint hopefully that has visual interest and provides a feeling of being there. I paint with water-miscible oils and acrylic. My soft block prints are all hand cut and hand-pressed. I work to my own photographs and constantly poke around, camera ready. As a retired Quality Engineer and Software Manager, my artistic work method tilts heavily to the process-oriented. The software life cycle stages - requirements, design, build, test and go live - come in handy for me when adapted to the artistic process.
I have painted off and on through my days of working for a living since given left over canvases and paints from a sculptor friend in college who had just completed a painting class. Since moving to Brunswick, Maine in 2006, I gathered a bit more focus and have taken classes and workshops with artists in the area (my favorites being Sarah Greenier, Kathy Boldt, Deb Arter and Ed McCartan) and have had my paintings juried into shows around the Midcoast. I have also had shows at the Brunswick Town Council Chambers, Dock Fore in Portland, Thornton Oaks, Bowdoin College LaMarche Gallery and Points of View Gallery.
