• Points of View Artists and art in Damariscotta

Looking for an excuse to take a drive to the midcoast?  There are two art events happening in the next two weeks.

Ed McCartan's paintings are on exhibit in the Carey Gallery at Skidompha Public Library downtown in Damariscotta.  The image seen here is "Iris Day" (acrylic, 32" x 32")  and is exemplary of Ed's work:  brighly colored, large acrylics.  Ed describes his work as an abstract  exploration of the balance and harmony, as well as the imparmanence, of natural forms. He tries to view the fragile beauty found in humble things. Ed's work will be at the library from November 5 to November 30.  Skidompha Public Library is located at 184 Main Street.  FMI:  207-563-5513 or www.skidompha.org.

And while in Damariscotta, stop in to see River Arts in their new headquarters on Route 1 in the old tavern complex, next to N.C. Hunt Lumber.  The next show, "What's New" will be up from November 23 to December 20.  The show explores the idea of “the new,” whether as a subject or as an expression of an artist’s new approach, method, materials, or genre.  Everything from art made with recycled materials to an adventure into a new medium will be included.  River Arts shows often include work by one or more Points of View artists.

The opening reception for "What's New" will be on Friday, November 23rd from 5 -7 p.m. Queries and requests may be directed to River Arts at 563-1507 or by email at info@riverartsme.org. Starting with “What’s New?” the new premises will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4, and on Sundays from 10-2. River Arts is closed on Mondays.  FMI:  563-1507 or riverartsme.org.
