• Collaborative Connections on display at Curtis Memorial Library

Eighteen artists from Circling the Square Fine Art Press and One of a Kind Printers are exhibiting their print collaboration project at Curtis Memorial Library during November.   Collaborative Connections reflects an exchange of work and ideas between two groups of fine art printmakers from Orono to Portland.

The thirty-six prints resulting from this yearlong collaboration are on display from November 3 to November 29. A reception to meet the artists and learn about their creative processes is scheduled for Saturday, November 3 from 5 to 7 pm in the Morrell Meeting Room.

“Collaborative Connections” refers to the process by which the prints were created.  The artists, who were randomly paired, each created a print that they exchanged with their partner. Each artist then created a second print in response to the one they received.  In the exhibit the paired artworks are displayed side by side, revealing each artist’s sensitivity and individuality while reflecting aspects of the other.   Among the artists are Points of View’s Judith Long and her art partner Susan Dean Smith whose work is shown here.  First prints are on top (Long on left, Smith on right).  Second prints - the reflective response prints - are on the bottom (Smith on left, Long on right).

Representing the Mid Coast area are Robin Brooks of Topsham, Diana McFarland, Judith Long, and Sarah Vosmus of Brunswick and Donna Parkinson of Freeport.

Collaborative Connections is open for viewing during regular library hours.  For further information, please visit www.circlingthesquarepress.com.  For library hours, visit www.curtislibrary.com.
