Work in three dimensions - assemblage, 3-D photography, sculpture - compliments the the designed patchwork artistry of more traditional two-dimensional collage. Artist reception: Friday, June 8, from 5 to 8 pm.

Our guest artist is Debra Arter, a well-known artist from Damariscotta, ME. Debra has been associated with printmaking in Maine since 1993. She earned her B.A. in Art Education from Iowa State University and MFA in Visual Arts from Vermont College. Recently her prints made using fugitive materials were included in the Maine Center for Contemporary Art Biennial exhibition. Her work is in the collection of the Farnsworth museum as well as many private collections. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, Monotype Guild of New England and signature member of the National Collage Society. She participates in national print shows on a regular basis. She has taught painting, printmaking and collage to youth and adults at various venues for nearly twenty years.  Debra’s collage “Big Fish in the Federal Reserve Aquarium” was juried into the 2012 Postcard Exhibition held each year by the National Collage Society.  This piece can be seen at http://www.nationalcollage.com/exhibitions/12pc.html.

Debra sums up her approach to collage as follows:  "Collage allows me to indulge in my passion for collecting and combines my interest in storytelling and texture in a visual form. I am concerned with history, decay and political inequity. I hope that my work reflects, above all, honesty and integrity and potentially resonates with someone somewhere so I do not have to chop it up and make it into something else."

In addition, explore the exhibit of Lucy Banfield's creative work with driftwood and other found objects on our 3rd floor Garret Gallery in her exhibit of funky fish and other whimsical creations.
