Harriet Lindemann, Judith Long, and Barbara Snapp are three of the artists exhibiting work with Linda Murray at Smith Union on the Bowdoin Campus. Decalcamania: Between the Sheets will be on display for the entire month of October. An artists reception will take place on Saturday, October 13, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm.
Decalcomania is a technique used in which plastic material is laid over wet pigment and manipulated. Once dry, the plastic is removed, leaving interesting textural patterns behind which can be reworked to create the final image. Images vary from landscapes to flowers to abstractions. The image below shows the angular blocks created when plastic wrap is used on watercolor. Cheese cloth and wax paper were also used to create other textural variation.
