The sixth annual 10 X 10 Benefit Art Exhibit & Sale will feature 300 works of art by 150 artists from the state of Maine. Each 10 X 10 sells for $200 with $100 going directly back to the artist and $100 going to Arts Are Elementary, a local nonprofit program that provides artist-in-residence education to all Brunswick students in grades K through 5.  Twelve Points of View artists are among the 150 participating this year.

The paintings will be on exhibit and for sale in the 10 x 10 Benefit Exhibit & Sale on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 5 pm to 8 pm. at the Morrell Meeting Room, Curtis Memorial Library and the Parish Hall, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick.

The public will have 2 opportunities to see the artwork at each venue before the sale: Thursday, September 26, 5pm to 8 pm; and Friday, September 27, 12 noon to 3 pm.

A painting by Brunswick artist Joe Godleski has been chosen to represent the 6th annual 10 x 10 exhibit. His oil painting on canvas panel entitled “Maritime Workshop” was inspired by a visit to the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. “I came across the boat workshop with its windows open. For me workshops in use have an appealing mix of order and disorder. In the maritime workshop, the array of boats, objects and surfaces, coupled with the light streaming in, form an as-found mid-coast narrative.”

Two other local artists received recognition as the publicity contest’s runners up for their artwork: Maria Castellano-Usery for her acrylic painting entitled “Prentiss’ Owl” and textile artist Catherine Worthington for her piece entitled “Coastal Maine Sunset.”

The reception and sale on Friday, September 27 is a gala affair and an opportunity to  meet many of the artists, enjoy delicious food and refreshing beverages provided by local restaurants, and - of course - buy some wonderful art at a great price for a worthy cause.  Save the date!
